Car Safety Kits

Car Safety KitNot too long ago, my friend went out on a road trip, lost his cell phone, ran out of gas, got a leaky gas can from a station 3 miles away, barely had any left to put in his tank, then his batteries died from leaving his hazard lights on… all in all, not the best of trips. Today, we rely so much on our cell phones to call for help that we don’t think of what we should carry with us should something happen when we’re without one.

Of course the most common occurrence is a flat tire. For many not a big deal, but for some of us, a nightmare. Most cars come with a jack and a lug nut wrench, but if you have a pre-owned car, you should check and make sure you have them along with your spare. Your owners manual should talk you through how to change a tire, but if you’ve never done it before, have someone teach you. It really isn’t hard, and most people should find it relatively easy.

As most things are not going to conveniently happen during daylight hours, have a flashlight, you might also want to have an extra set of batteries for it as it’s not something that you will use every day. Or to be really safe, in addition to your regular flashlight, keep a hand crank one with you just in case. With a hand crank light, you create the power for it and it won’t ever need batteries.

Sometimes accidents can happen, and though a lot of times it is merely a fender bender, it can also be a lot worse. Have a first aid kit in your trunk, in case you need it before an ambulance arrives. As everything around Las Vegas is a desert, having a couple of water bottles back there won’t hurt either.

Having flairs on the ready, can also be a good thing too. They will warn other cars that there is a problem, and will help you divert them around you. It will also help police or ambulances find you easily on a long stretch of dark road.

When things happen, it hardly ever happens when and where things will be easy. Accidents don’t always occur where cell phone service is optimum, or on busy roads where someone is bound to see you and help. Being prepared takes only a little effort, but at some point could pay off big.
